The city Syracruse
Syracuse is a city in the U.S. state of New York in the USA with 145.170 inhabitants.
Syracuse is located south of Lake Ontario and is an industrial and commercial city. Here especially chemicals, aircraft engines, machinery, electronic equipment and metal products are manufactured. Syracuse has a large University, the Syracuse University and some art museums.
The city is named after the ancient Greek city of Syracuse in Sicily.
The area of the Syracuse now was in the17th Century after the Indians from the French missionaries settled. After the Revolutionary War more people came to the area, mostly to trade with the Onondaga tribe. Having obtained some salt marshes of Syracuse in a professional manner salt that more settlers moved into the region. The salt gave the city the nickname "Salt City".
